manager Andre Villas-Boas has revealed his side will be out for revenge against Chelsea this weekend.
The Blues thrashed Spurs 5-1 in last season’s FA Cup semi-final before the White Hart Lane club were then denied a place in this seasons Champions League, despite finishing fourth in the Premier League last year, because Chelsea went on to the win the competition while finishing outside the top four.
And former Chelsea boss Villas-Boas thinks his players will be looking for revenge when the two sides meet at White Hart Lane on Saturday.
Villas-Boas told the Evening Standard: “It is the team who took this club out of the Champions League, this is the team who prevented this team from playing in FA Cup final last year.
“So in the end we certainly have ingredients for it to be a spectacular match, hopefully.
“We never know how the game can develop. But certainly, a good game might hopefully give us a chance to go nearer the top, which is what we want.”
Despite his players’ eagerness to get revenge on Chelsea, Villas-Boas insists his first game against Roberto Di Matteo’s side since he left Stamford Bridge in March will not be a chance to get personal revenge.
The 35-year-old added: “In the end there is one thing which has been to a certain extent blown out of proportion in some ways – this is certainly not a personal matter.
“This game is not going to decide the future of both teams in the Premier League – after this game there will be 30 more games to play and both teams will have decisive matches in front of them. It counts as three points. It doesn’t win us a trophy.”
