Jota and his brother Andre Silva were involved in a car accident in Zamora, north-western Spain, shortly after midnight on Thursday. Jota tied the knot with his long-time girlfriend Rute Cardoso on June 22, with the couple sharing three young children. Tributes poured in following the confirmation of the tragic news. Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo mourned the death of his compatriot, while Nunez shared a heartfelt social media post.

On Instagram, the Uruguayan forward wrote: "There are no words of comfort for so much pain. I will always remember you with your smile, as a good companion on and off the field.
