You’d be hard pushed to find a signing that has transformed a team quite like Virgil van Dijk has at Liverpool.
The giant Dutchman has turned Liverpool from a good attacking team with no backbone to a genuine threat with a strong spine.
Before the 2-2 draw at West Brom on Saturday, the Reds had kept eight clean sheets in their last 11 matches, and kept the irresistible Manchester City to just one goal over two Champions League legs.
That said, Jürgen Klopp paid the price for his heavy rotation at the Hawthorns, as a makeshift backline including the likes of Ragnar Klavan and Alberto Moreno were stunned by a late Baggies’ turnaround.
Despite the rather disastrous defensive display though, fans are once again heaping praise on van Dijk, who still managed to play well despite the chaos around him.
The 26 year-old completed 89 per cent of his passes and made an incredible 12 clearances, including one powerful late header that left Matt Phillips in a heap.
