It’s always an interesting story to follow when Arsenal and the transfer market are mentioned in the same breath.
One of the sagas of the summer involving Lyon man Alexandre Lacazette eventually came to nothing as Arsene Wenger decided against a move.
Meanwhile the club signed Granit Xhaka and Rob Holding in a bid to strengthen a couple of areas on the pitch. That though, it soon became clear, was not going to be enough as the club got off to a slow start and the fans began to cry out for more investment.
It seems as though they’ve been heard with Shkodran Mustafi and Lucas Perez officially announced and now it seems Arsene Wenger has got the spending bug.
He’s left it late but there are more players linked that could still make the move to the Emirates this Summer and we’ve got five of them right here…
Miguel Almiron
The Sun reckon Arsenal could be looking at the Paraguayan as a replacement of Jack Wilshere so he must have some talent.
Wilshere has struggled with injuries throughout his Arsenal career and looks like he could be moved on at least on loan whilst Almiron’s career is on an upward curve.
He’s unproven in Europe but could be one of Wenger’s inspired signings.
Kostas Manolas
The 25-year-old Greek international has been at AS Roma since 2014 and been a key part of their defensive line from there on. Any potential deal has had the brakes put on by his club but now it seems Arsene Wenger is ready to splash some cash you wouldn’t rule it out.
Arsenal are definitely interested, as they seem to be in every centre-half but this one would certainly make a difference.
Jose Gimenez
Arsenal were quoted £56million according to Marca for the Atletico Madrid defender.
That initially looks quite a fee but when you consider Gimenez forms one half of one of the best centre-half pairings in Europe, helped his side reach the Champions League final and nearly helped his side win La Liga last season it all of sudden looks better value, well slightly anyway.
Jonny Evans
For Arsenal centre-halves seem to be like London buses. Their fans have been waiting all summer for one and now they’re being linked with loads before the window shuts.
Jonny Evans may not be the name the Emirates faithful were expecting but if Wenger wants a cheaper option as well as Shkodran Mustafi it could be the West Brom man. Who’d have thought it?
Antoine Griezmann
You get the feeling if Arsene Wenger somehow pulled this one off after all of the messing about trying to get Alexandre Lacazette in, he’d be forgiven by the Arsenal fans.
Griezmann is absolutely world class and would get into any team in the world, so would certainly make Arsenal better and turn them into bonafide title contenders.
