After confirmation that he had signed a new contract with Manchester United, Tahith Chong was given a rare chance to shine against LASK on Thursday night. And he took his small opportunity with both hands.
Reports in recent weeks and months had suggested Chong’s time at the club was coming to an end, with suggestions that Serie A giants Inter were considering making a move for him.
But in a rather surprising turn of events, the Red Devils announced that they had reached an agreement with the Dutchman for him to extend his deal.

And perhaps because of that, Solskjaer named him in the match-day squad for the Europa League clash on Thursday. Whilst he didn’t start from the off, the United boss did throw Chong on with 19 minutes to play, and the starlet provided the Norwegian with a tantalising glimpse of what he can bring to the table.
Not only did he provide the assist for Mason Greenwood’s injury-time strike that made it 4-0 on the night, but he also contributed in plenty of other ways too. As per Sofascore, he completed all three of the dribbles that he attempted – a directness and bravery that could add a different dimension to the United attack from out wide.

And despite only being on the pitch for just over quarter of an hour, he also provided one key pass and one big chance too. The United youngster also didn’t shy away from the physical battles either, winning all five of his ground duels.
It was the kind of cameo display that gave Solskjaer a small glimpse of what Chong can do if given the opportunity to shine. Now that they have him tied down to a longer deal, the Norwegian doesn’t have to worry about giving playing time to someone who may be leaving in the short-term. Things are looking far more rosy now.
Meanwhile, this Man Utd starlet could be the future of the club.
